India has a very beautiful wildlife destination called Pilibhit Tiger Reserve found in Uttar Pradesh foothills area known as the majestic Himalayan Terai region. The reserve that is located in the thick sal forests, river-based grasslands, fertile wetlands and diverse biodiversity areas provides a memorable experience to the nature enthusiasts and adventure tourists. The highlight of the fun is the Gypsy Jungle Safari where the tourists can go around the forest trails, tiger areas and the natural beautiful scenery. The reserve has three major entry points-Mahof, Mustafabad and the newly opened Barahi Gate that subdivides the reserve into zones that provide different forest ambiance and animal diversity. The rivers such as Sharda, the broad canals and Sharda Sagar Dam reservoir form a landscape that would provide an ideal environment to wildlife and eco-tourism. Each safari through these wood trails brings out the real soul of Terai ecosystem in which tigers are roaming, deer are grazing silently, and birds are singing melodious songs.
There is nothing much thrilling like the Gypsy Jungle Safari to experience the wilderness of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. The visitors are driven to the core conservation areas in the use of safari vehicles where they are guided by trained naturalists and are likely to see the wildest wildlife. The safari includes the fertile forest areas via Kacchi Patri and Pakki Patri and the visibility of tigers on the canal is very frequent. Sal trees cover the tracks forming green tunnels that add more excitement to the adventure of entering tiger habitat. One can easily see tigers, leopards, jackals, black storks, swamp deer, sambar, hog deer, hyenas and hundreds of species of birds. Migratory birds also visit the Terai in winter and thus make it the haven of bird watchers. The safari gypsy glides along the canal banks one can observe new pugmarks, drag marks and evidence of wildlife movement and this gives one excitement and anticipation. The morning safaris have a golden forest that is wet with mist and the evening safaris have relaxing breezes and increased wildlife. Any safari in this place is primitive, natural, and exquisitely wild.
Among the most distinct tourist spots within the tiger reserve is Chuka or rather Chuka beach as is commonly referred to as the only beach like area in Uttar Pradesh. A company consisting of a long stretch of the Sharda Sagar Dam, Chuka is a beautiful beach that is framed by blue water with vast forests on the banks. There are Tharu-style huts, tree houses and view points in the eco-tourism area here which makes it a peaceful retreat within the wild. The light at sunrise is reflected on the water with golden light and at sunset the horizon becomes a spectacular orange and pink mixture. The gentle sandy coasts, the wooden walkways, the birds that are chirping, and the waves make one feel a calmness that is not experienced in the forests of North India. One of the best events in Chuka is boating where the visitor can observe the beauty of aquatic birds and the marsh life closely as well as the dam and its stunning scenery. The area is also perfect to families, nature lovers and to those who want to relax and take a break out of the city but remain in the midst of the beauty of untamed forest.
The Pilibhit Tiger reserve is a unique forest which has both natural and artificial bifurcations. There are long canals in the forest which are now most valuable wildlife corridors, particularly to tigers. Crossing of tigers, sun bathing turtles, grazing deer and varieties of kingfishers sitting on the water were all common in Canal View Zone. Gypsies like to visit canal bridges to see what wildlife is up to and new tracks left in the loose soil. Bifurcation areas where one track divides into another track inside the forest are also good photo areas, particularly when the wildlife moves out of the dense forest areas. Another compelling sight is the massive Sharda Sagar Dam, which is a huge reservoir of water forming a lake like scenery all over the reserve. The dam does not only serve to maintain the balance of the ecology but also to become a source of beauty among the tourists. Birds such as bar headed geese, tufted ducks, red crested pochards and herons are migratory birds that come close to the reservoir during the winter seasons making the area a lively birding habitat. These sceneries are an eye-catching combination of water, forest and animals.
Another magical place within Pilibhit Tiger Reserve is the Sapt Sarovar because of its spiritual ambience and the beauty of nature. Sapt Sarovar is a place that is believed to be a divine one, and that was where seven small lakes used to be located in the thick forest canopy and peaceful bodies of water. It is a serene woodland location that is frequented by tourists, photographers and the lovers of meditation nowadays. On the safari, the trip to Sapt Sarovar takes one through the serene forest paths where there are deer, peacocks, langurs and in certain occasion even tigers. The creek and the quiet forest combined with the reflective water and the gentle wind make the whole atmosphere pure and calm. Lots of tourists refer to it as one of the quietest areas within the reserve. Along with Chuka, the canals, bifurcations and dam scenes, Sapt Sarovar is the final touch of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve-where the adventure and calmness blend in coexistence and the wild animals live in harmony. Be it a wild adventure in tiger safari or a peaceful nature getaway, Pilibhit has been an all-encompassing forest experience that no other place in Uttar Pradesh has ever had.
